G-Dragon recreated his iconic guitar-smashing moment during a performance of "Tonight" at BigBang's concert at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on Saturday night.
The performance came during the group's opening set, the third act of the night. Near the end of the song, G-Dragon smashed a guitar, drawing cheers from tens of thousands of fans. A fireworks display followed, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The guitar-smashing act became a signature moment during promotions for "Tonight," the title track of BigBang's fourth mini-album, released in early 2011.
The group first featured the stunt at their "2011 Big Show" concert in late February that year and on the television program "The Big Bang Show." It continued through weekly music programs, including "Inkigayo," "Music Bank" and "M! Countdown," throughout March 2011.
BigBang last performed "Tonight" during their 2015-2016 "MADE" World Tour. Nearly a decade later, the group brought the song back on Aug. 21 at the opening show of their 20th-anniversary world tour at Goyang Stadium in South Korea.
The Hanoi concerts, held on Oct. 24 and 25 at My Dinh National Stadium, are part of the group's 20th-anniversary tour, titled "BigBang 2026-2027 World Tour (XX: COSMOS)." Running to Feb. 28, 2027, the tour is scheduled to span approximately 39 shows across various countries and territories.
The Hanoi concert began at 7:45 p.m. with "Fantastic Baby." During the first half of the show, BigBang performed a series of hits, including "Haru Haru," "Lies," "Blue" and "Bae Bae." At several points, the members moved toward the seating areas to interact with the audience.
Tens of thousands of fans in eye-catching outfits gathered at My Dinh stadium ahead of the show from 4 p.m. Even after the check-in areas had closed, many fans without tickets remained outside the gates, cheering for the group.
BigBang debuted in 2006 with five members: Seungri, G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P and Daesung. All five could sing, write music and dance, and the group worked mainly in hip-hop and R&B.
The group regularly won Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year at major Asian music awards, and in the early 2010s their success reached the U.S. In 2015, BigBang released "MADE" to wide acclaim.
Four of the members began mandatory military service in 2017 and 2018, and "Flower Road", released in 2018, was the group's last release with all five.
BigBang returned in 2022 as a four-piece. Seungri had quit show business in 2019 amid the Burning Sun nightclub scandal and was sentenced in August 2021 to three years in prison, a term later cut to 18 months on appeal.
T.O.P confirmed in 2023 that he had also left. In 2024, G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung caused a stir by reuniting as a trio at the MAMA Awards, and the same lineup is now on a world tour marking 20 years since the band's debut.
BigBang visited Vietnam for the first time to perform at the SoundFest 2012 music festival in Ho Chi Minh City. This event featured all five members of the group at the time.
